Install and Use Flock
With the abundance of social media outlets and tools available to an individual, keeping track of them can be extremely frustrating and time consuming. Developers created Flock to make social marketing and networking an easier task. Flock is a free web browser which enables users to upload and share photos and videos along. Users can also use Flock to receive updates from their favorite blogs and web mail.
Installation is as easy as 1, 2, 3. Regardless of your operating system or language, it’s almost guaranteed there is a Flock version for you.
Step 1. Visit http://flock.com/versions and scan the list for the appropriate version.
Windows, Mac and Linux are all supported as are myriad languages. There are currently 5 Special Edition versions to choose from.
- Gloss Edition – designed for those in the fashion/entertainment industry
- Eco Edition – designed for those with environmentally friendly interests and comes preloaded with global news and media
- Digg Edition – if you use Digg to track your favorite blogs then this is the version for you.
- Yahoo Edition – lets you track your yahoo mail along with several other mainstream social media sites like Twitter and Magnolia
- Photobucket Edition – perfect for the aspiring photographer.
Step 2. Once you’ve decided whether you want a special edition or the latest standard edition, click download and follow the instructions. Once the file is downloaded you’ll need to extract it, check the license agreement box and follow installation instructions. It’s really as simple as a few clicks unless you do a custom install. Less than 30 seconds later you’re ready to click finish and launch Flock.
Step 3. Import your favorites. Flock offers a wizard to help you import your favorites. If you use Firefox or Internet Explorer it’ll take care of this for you automatically. You can also opt to not import and take care of the process manually. You’ll also be asked to choose which homepage you wish to use – Flock or your Firefox homepage. It will import your:
- Preferences
- Cookies
- Bookmarks
Now it’s time to put Flock to use!
Add feeds. Flock comes with feeds already installed however if you wish to add blog feeds to your page simply click on the word “Favorite Feeds”, pull down the menu and import feeds.
To customize Flock and make the most of this tool, you can do the same for Friend Activity, Favorite Media and Favorite Sites. If you’re logged into any sites, for example Gmail, when you install Flock, you’ll be asked to log out and log back into your account. Flock makes it easy to see everything at a glance and to participate in multiple social media at a time without swallowing hours of your day.
